It is common in the West to hear about the Chinese using matchmakers to find someone the love of their life. The Chinese even arrange marriages for their children sometimes with the aid of a matchmaker. In the West, that is a horrible infringement on personal rights, but to the Chinese, it is a great favor to their children because they know they will be paired up with someone who is perfectly compatible for them, and that the more time the two spend together, the more they will grow to love another. Indeed, many believe this is a great way to find a romantic partner, and there are those who say that they would choose to use a matchmaker if their parents had not. Matchmakers have surprising success and often the marriages they arrange not only last, but also develop into a very strong, loving relationship. Some in the West are now becoming interested in Chinese astrology because of this success. The Chinese method of astrology assigns animals to the zodiac, each one with its own traits. The zodiac animals each represents a year on a twelve-year cycle. To find your zodiac animal, simply find the animal that represents the year you were born. If you were born in January or early February, make sure you go by the Chinese New Year, not the Gregorian calendar because it is different. For example, the year 1984 was the Year of the Rat. If you were born before the Chinese New Year in 1984, you actually were born in the Year of the Pig. Matchmakers use a much more complicated system to determine matches, but just general knowledge about animal signs can help you better understand yourself and others. For instance, a Pig and Snake normally do not make good romantic partners. The Pig is easily dominated by the stronger Snake, and since Pigs often are extremely loyal, easy-going, and loving, they will often allow it. Unless the Pig is stronger than the Snake, this relationship will never work and will always be miserable for the Pig. Matchmakers use Yin, Yang, and different elements to decide this additional information. |
