The Chinese zodiac is made up of 13 animals. These are the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig, and Cat. Only 12 of these signs are used. According to legend, the Cat was tricked by the Rat and missed the Gods’ dinner party and so it was left out of the zodiac. Each year has a corresponding animal sign (except of course, the Cat,) and everyone born in that year are that animal. For example, anyone born in 1983 is a Pig and anyone born in 1990 is a Horse. Each animal has its own strengths and weaknesses. Some, like the Tiger, are powerful people who will fight for what they believe in no matter what while others, like the Rabbit, will try anything to avoid conflict. Each sign describes the people born in that year – those who are Horses have a tendency to wander from project to project, job to job, and even relationship to relationship, just like horses truly do in nature. The resemblance to the people born under each sign is amazing, and matchmakers have used this zodiac system for ages to ensure happy marriages. The Chinese zodiac tries to take animals and give them human characteristics so that people might be classified. There are always exceptions however. Pigs and Snakes are seen as mortal enemies, but there are happy marriages from this union. Rabbits are supposed to get along great with Tigers, but Tigers are prone to emotional blowups and most Rabbits can’t stand that kind of conflict. So while the Chinese zodiac may not always be the best marriage guide, it is very useful in understanding yourself. For example, Pigs are very loyal, hardworking, loving people who adore friends and family, love learning, and strive for the best things in life. You will find most Pigs are indeed that way, with wide variations. Understanding your animal’s strengths and weaknesses will help you understand yourself and steer your life accordingly. |
